Are solar panels worth it in the South East?
For most homes with a south, east or west-facing roof, yes. Panels cut the electricity you buy from the grid, you are paid for what you export under the Smart Export Guarantee, and there is no VAT on home installs until 31 March 2027. Most systems are fitted in one to two days.

FAQs
Solar panels questions
Straight answers to what homeowners ask us most. Anything else, just ask.
How much do solar panels cost?
The price depends mainly on the number of panels, the roof and how much scaffolding is needed. Home installs are zero-rated for VAT until 31 March 2027, so there is no VAT to add. We send a fixed, written price after reviewing your roof and usage.
Do I need planning permission for solar panels?
Usually not. Most roof-mounted solar on houses counts as permitted development. Listed buildings, flats and some homes in conservation areas have extra rules, and we check this for you before we quote.
Can I get paid for the electricity I export?
Yes. Under the Smart Export Guarantee, energy suppliers pay you for each unit your panels export. You need an MCS-certified installation and a smart meter to apply, and rates vary by supplier.
Do solar panels work in winter or on cloudy days?
Yes, but they produce less. Panels generate from daylight rather than heat, so output is highest from spring to early autumn and lower in winter and on heavy cloud.
Which way should my roof face?
South-facing roofs generate the most. East and west-facing roofs still work well and spread generation across the morning and evening. North-facing roofs are rarely worth it.
How long does installation take?
Most home systems are fitted in one to two days, plus scaffolding going up beforehand and coming down afterwards.
