What do you get with home air conditioning?

A modern split air conditioner is an air-to-air heat pump. One wall-mounted indoor unit, linked by a small pipe to an outdoor unit, cools a room in summer and heats it in winter. A single room is usually fitted in a day, and each room gets its own controls and app.

  • Cool, comfortable rooms

Bedrooms and home offices stay at the temperature you set, even in a heatwave.

  • Efficient heating too

As a heat pump it can deliver around three or more units of heat for each unit of electricity it uses.

  • Pairs with solar

Run your cooling on free daytime solar power when the sun is strongest.

  • Quiet and discreet

Slim indoor units and outdoor units placed where you won't notice them.

FAQs

Air conditioning questions

Straight answers to what homeowners ask us most. Anything else, just ask.

How much does air conditioning cost to install?

National installers advertise single-room wall-mounted systems from around £2,200 to £2,300 fitted. Multi-room systems cost more, depending on the number of rooms and the pipe runs. We send a fixed, written price before any work starts.

Does air conditioning heat as well as cool?

Yes. A split air conditioner is an air-to-air heat pump, so the same indoor unit cools in summer and heats in winter. It is an efficient way to heat a room because it moves heat rather than making it.

How long does installation take?

A single-room system is usually fitted in one day. A multi-room system typically takes two to three days, depending on the number of indoor units and the pipe routes.

Do I need planning permission for air conditioning?

Many homes can add a single outdoor unit without an application, but flats, listed buildings and homes in conservation areas often need permission or freeholder consent. We check the rules for your property before we quote.

Is air conditioning noisy?

Modern indoor units are very quiet on low fan speeds, similar to a quiet room. We position the outdoor unit away from bedrooms and neighbours' windows wherever possible.

Does air conditioning need servicing?

Yes. An annual service keeps it efficient and is usually needed to keep the manufacturer warranty valid. It includes cleaning filters and coils and checking the refrigerant system.
