What we install

Our services in Wimbledon

Solair fits air conditioning, solar panels and home batteries across Wimbledon, including Wimbledon Village, West Wimbledon, South Wimbledon, Wimbledon Chase and Merton Park. You start with a free survey, and then you get a fixed, written price.

Cooling a whole period house

Much of Wimbledon is Victorian and Edwardian. Around the Ridgway, Arthur Road and the streets off the Common, many homes are large villas and semis spread over several floors. Top floor bedrooms can get very warm in summer, even when the ground floor feels fine.

That is why bigger houses often suit a multi-split system. One outdoor unit runs several indoor units, and each room has its own controls. We plan the pipe routes to protect cornicing and other original features. Every system we fit is reversible, so it can also heat those rooms in spring and autumn. Our air conditioning cost guide explains what affects the price.

Keeping the peace with next door

In South Wimbledon and around Wimbledon Chase, many homes are two-storey terraces with small gardens. Here, a neighbour’s bedroom window may be close to where an outdoor unit would go.

The planning rules deal with this through a noise standard called MCS 020 a). For an outdoor unit to count as permitted development, the sound level must be no more than 37 dB(A) at a point 1 metre outside a neighbour’s door or window to a habitable room. It applies to every install in England. At the survey we:

  • measure the distance to nearby doors and windows
  • check walls and fences that could block or reflect sound
  • choose a quiet unit and a position that keeps within the limit

If no position works, we will tell you before you commit.

Merton’s conservation areas

Wimbledon is in the London Borough of Merton, which has 29 conservation areas. Several cover Wimbledon, including Wimbledon Village, Wimbledon North, West Wimbledon and Wimbledon Hill Road. Roof solar is usually permitted development, and so are air-to-air units since 29 May 2025. In a conservation area, though, an outdoor unit cannot go on a wall or roof facing the road. The council lists Article 4 directions for John Innes Merton Park and John Innes Wilton Crescent, and listed buildings always need consent.

Solar, batteries and the grid

Roofs range from big villa roofs to the small rear slopes of a terrace. A solar and battery system lets you store daytime power for the evening. Homes here are on the UK Power Networks system, and Solair sends them the notification for you. Residential solar panels and batteries carry 0% VAT until 31 March 2027. FAQs

Questions from homeowners in Wimbledon

Will an air conditioning unit disturb my neighbours in Wimbledon?

It should not if it is planned properly. Under the planning rules, the unit must stay at or below 37 dB(A), measured 1 metre outside a neighbour's door or window to a habitable room. We check this at the survey and choose a quiet unit and position.

Can one system cool several rooms in a large Wimbledon house?

Yes. A multi-split system runs several indoor units from one outdoor unit, and each room has its own controls. Every system we fit can heat as well as cool.

Do I need planning permission for air conditioning in a Wimbledon conservation area?

Often not, but the rules are stricter. In Merton's conservation areas an outdoor unit cannot go on a wall or roof facing the road, and some areas, such as John Innes Merton Park, have Article 4 directions. Listed buildings always need consent.

Do you install air conditioning and solar panels in Wimbledon?

Yes. We install air conditioning, solar panels and home batteries in Wimbledon and across London, including Kingston upon Thames, Richmond, Croydon. Every job gets a fixed, written price before any work starts.
