Get my priceSolair covers Epsom and the rest of the borough, including Ewell, Stoneleigh, West Ewell and the newer homes around Horton Country Park. Every job starts with a free survey and a fixed, written price.
A large part of the borough was built in the 1930s house building boom, with more added in the 1950s. The council’s character study describes Stoneleigh, much of Ewell and West Ewell as long streets of semi-detached houses, many with hipped roofs.
A hipped roof slopes down on every side, so each face is smaller than on a simple gable roof. That often means fewer panels on the best slope, or a split layout across two slopes such as east and west. Our survey works out which faces get the most sun and how many panels each one can take.
When an array is modest, a battery helps you use more of what it makes instead of exporting it. Our guide on what size battery you need explains how to match the two. You can also see how panels and storage work together on our solar and battery page.
The study also picks out streets of 1930s bungalows, such as around Bradford Drive and to the west of Auriol Park. With every room on one floor, an outdoor unit can often sit close to the rooms it serves.
West of the town centre, five large hospitals once stood together, known as the Epsom Cluster. Most of the land is now housing. Long Grove, for example, became Clarendon Park, a mix of new houses and flats in converted hospital buildings.
Newer, well insulated houses there can suit reversible air conditioning, which cools in summer and heats in winter. If you own a flat in a converted building, you will normally need consent from the freeholder or management company before an outdoor unit is fitted.
Epsom & Ewell Borough Council has 21 conservation areas, and Article 4 directions apply in several, including College Road, Downs Road Estate, Stamford Green and Ewell Village. Roof solar is usually permitted development, and reversible air con units have been since 29 May 2025, but these areas, the Hospital Cluster and listed buildings need a check first. The council joins the new East Surrey Council on 1 April 2027.
Epsom is on the UK Power Networks system, and Solair handles the solar and battery notification for you. Residential solar panels and batteries carry 0% VAT until 31 March 2027. When you are ready, ask for a free survey.
